Lower Suwannee NWR

Starting out a vacation week at a new spot that we haven’t gone to before, Lower Suwannee NWR in Levy County Florida. It’s a nice drive through trail that’s about 9 miles long. This time of year there are a lot of small birds migrating. We got to see several by using a lot of patients and a sharp eye since these little guys a so small and fast. They also like to hide in the trees so they’re only in the open for a short time…

A little Pine Warbler that briefly flew into some beautiful light at the top part of a pine tree

Red Bellied Woodpecker saying “hello” from high above

Red Shouldered Hawk keeping an eye on all the little visitors

These Black and White Warblers sure like to hop!

Yellow Rump Warblers are more common here in Florida but they’re still cute to watch!

We had a great time checking this place out. It’s really out of the way so it’s not nearly as crowded as many other spots are. You definitely need to drive it, but be sure to get out every so often and observe all that’s going on around you. With all of the growth in Florida, we need places like this to remain so that all of nature has a natural habitat to enjoy.
