Merritt Island NWR

For the first time in a long while we went to Merritt Island NWR to see if anything was going on. It’s still a bit early and things are sort of hit or miss right now. The main birds we saw today were a few Kingfishers and some Reddish Egrets. Other than that, it was pretty quiet, but still a great place to go and be outside with nature.

I think this Reddish Egret sees me

Belted Kingfishers don't soar like eagles, but this one looks like it is

It's not a trip to Merritt Island if you don't see a Bald Eagle.  This one was kind of far offsetting on it's nest.

It’s getting closer to the time of year when birding here in Florida gets good. It seems to be shaping up to be a good one. Check back a see how it goes!
