Joe Overstreet Road

We heard about some nesting Great Horned Owls on Joe Overstreet Road. It’s always a fun spot to see wildlife so we met up with some birding friends and headed over to find them (and whatever else we could find)…

Loggerhead Shriks are usually very skittish. This one sat nicely in a tree right above us for several minutes

An immature Bald Eagle flew overhead

We found the owl! There was a beautiful beam of sunlight that came through the trees perfectly lighting her up

Even though the Owl is easy to see in the photos, she blends in so well that everyone going past did not see her

A Crested Cara Cara flew over the boardwalk with something to eat

Another Cara Cara flew along the edge of the lake

Cara Cara glancing over as it flew past

Not the best Snail Kite photo, but she did fly past us along the lake

More photos of the Great Horned Owl sitting on the nest.

The Great Horned Owl finally opened her eyes enough to show off her yellow eyes

With her eyes closed, you can see the puffy eyelids on the Great Horned Owl

Palm Warbler scurrying around the brush…

… but not for long! Palm Warbler flying off

That was great finding the Great Horned Owl. They blend in so well that even when one of the photographers found her, it was still hard to see her. The male is usually not far away but none of us could locate him. This camouflage helps them stay safe during the day when they’re not as active.
