Joe Overstreet Road
I had not been to Joe Overstreet Road in a while so I decided to check it out this morning. There were a lot of Bald Eagles that were mostly a ways out, but a few were up close. The Osprey couple are back nest building on their sign near the boat ramp. The male was bringing in new sticks for the nest, often just missing hitting the female with them! I was surprised to see a male Snail Kite that briefly flew over the pier and dock.
It’s a 2 hour drive for me to get here, but being here at sunrise is worth it.
As the sun was coming up, I saw this Cara Cara on a pole along Canoe Creek Rd

In the nest is an Eaglet looking back
A Meadowlark stood very close to me on a fence post. They’re usually very skittish and won’t stay that close by
The Eaglet was doing a morning shake out…
… and some wing stretches

Making a quick get away, a Bald Eagle flys off to terrorize birds on the far side of the field
Back at the nest, the Eaglet does some more wing stretches as it gets stronger for its first flight
On the way home, I stopped by the South Apopka Eagle nest to see if the Eaglet there was flying. It was around noon and getting hot, so it was just sitting up in the tree next to the nest…
The Eaglet at the South Apopka nest was out on a branch enjoying the sunny day
Preening time for the Eagle
Even though it was a slower day action wise, there was still plenty of wildlife to watch and photograph. You just have to relax and look around. It’s all there waiting for you!
