Joe Overstreet Road

The weather looked good for today so we headed to Joe Overstreet Rd to see what birds were spending the summer here in Florida. We got there a little after sunrise (that comes up very early this time of year lol) and it was a good thing we did. It started raining real hard around 9am. At least we got a couple of hours in before that.

It wouldn’t be a visit to J.O. without the always happily singing Eastern Meadowlark

There were a lot of Cattle Egrets flying about

Sherman’s Fox Squirrel stood up to see who was watching him

As the rain was about to start, we saw this Bald Eagle in the grass a little off the road

Sensing the rain and not wanted to get wet, the Bald Eagle took off

The Bald Eagle quickly flew past us and off to the nearby tree line to take cover from the coming rain

The summer is the slower time of year for birds in Florida. It was great to see that not all of the Bald Eagles went north for the summer. It was also awesome to see a Sherman’s Fox Squirrel. Online people have been wondering about them as they haven’t seen any in a long time. The Eagles may have had something to do with that.
