Merritt Island NWR

On Friday we finished our vacation birding at Merritt Island NWR. We heard it was slow there and it was. However we did see a lot of Green Herons and other interesting birds…

Redwing Blackbird flying off

Tricolored Heron landing on the water as it hunts for little fish

Osprey with fishing line stuck to its foot. This is why you should never leave line behind, even if it breaks. We did watch this Osprey catch a fish afterwards so at least in this case, it can still catch food. That’s not always the case.

Even though there were only a few groups of birds, it was a fun day. Being out in nature is something that I wish I could do every day.
