Myakka State Park

While heading back from Fort Meyers, we decided to stop by Myakka State Park. We’ve driven past it many times but had never gone in. There were a lot of people there as its a busy park, but we still found a lot of Spoonbills and even Deer.

There were several young Spoonbills along with many Black Vultures across the Myakka River, which flows through the park.

There were also a bunch of Tri-colored Herons flying past

Watching over the whole scene was a Bald Eagle on top of the tree line

A bit farther down the river was a large gathering of Spoonbills. This Snowy Egret flew in to join them

First time I’ve seen a Pectoral Sandpiper

Spoonbills eating

A large flock of Pectoral Sandpipers would suddenly jumps up in unison and fly around

I don’t know what was said, but it must have been funny lol

Bath time!

A wet Spoonbill is drying off

Time for some preening after the bath

The Little Blue Heron seems to be critiquing the Spoonbills preening

Another Spoonbill is really getting into its bath

Wild Turkeys were on the move not far off the road

This Turkey seems to think it can run faster with its wings up

On the way towards the exit, we came across some Deer

A young Deer born earlier this year is getting bigger and has lost its spots

One of the young Deer is grazing next to mama

Another of the young Deer was a little more shy and stayed longer in the tall grass

All three would not look at me at the same time. It was still cool to watch them graze

I’ve seen a lot of great images of all sorts of wildlife at Myakka State Park. Now that we’ve had a chance to look around a bit, we’ll definitely be back to do more exploring to see what else we can find!
