Cape Coral Owls

We took a trip south to Cape Coral this afternoon to see the Burrowing Owls. The last time we were here we came in the morning. This time we wanted to see them before sunset. They are the cutest little things!

Burrowing Owls can camouflage into the dirt of their mounds very effectively

Looking very innocent in the grass near its burrow

Staring contest

One of us is getting sleepy

Burrowing Owls are shorter than the grass around them

This pair of Burrowing Owls were taking turns looking around

Very serious stare

Hiding part way in the burrow

Very puffy round Burrowing Owl

The bright sun popped out from behind the clouds just as it was setting. You can see the catch light in its eye.

Definitely some cuteness overload here! I wish there were Burrowing Owls closer to home, but it’s definitely worth the long drive to see them.
