Merritt Island Area

Today we started out early at Merritt Island and then headed up towards Daytona, then back down to Merritt Island. The Eagles are out and about as well as some small migratory birds that I haven’t seen in a while…

Bald Eagles are always awesome to see

White-eyed Vireo

White-eyed Vireo making a quick flight between branches

White-eyed Vireo that stood still briefly for a portrait

Immature Coopers Hawk flying up above the trees

Bald Eagles taking a break from nestorations

Time to go get some more sticks for the nest

Black-throated Blue Warbler. A first time lifer for me!

Brown Thrasher in some thick brush

I’m not much of a Butterfly guy, but this one looked cool!

Immature Red Shouldered Hawk

Red Tailed Hawk

A beautiful display of the wings and tail of a Red Tailed Hawk. I only wish it looked at me instead of away.

You can really see why they named this bird a Red Tailed Hawk.

Today was the start of what’s going to be a great week. We have quite a few adventures planned and will be sharing what we see right here! Stay tuned…
