John Chesnut Sr Park

Today we went to John Chesnut Sr Park in Palm Harbor, FL for the first time. We had heard about there being owls there, but didn’t see any. We did see a lot of other fun little birds, some deer and a couple of lifer birds.

Blue Jay hopping on the railing

Squirrel praying that we’ll give it some peanuts

Pileated Woodpecker looking right at me. This angle makes it look like there’s a flame on top of its head

Red-Bellied Woodpecker hanging on

Anhinga relaxing near the shoreline

Blue Jay in the trees

Blue Jay giving a sideways look towards me

Tufted Titmouse looking for seeds

Carolina Chickadee in the palms

Red-Bellied Woodpecker

Short-tailed Hawk Dark Morph was resting and stretching its wings on a very low branch

The Short-Tailed Hawk Dark Morph flew up into some higher trees. It was peeking out at me as I was trying to get a good look at it

Downy Woodpecker looking for bugs on a palm tree

Tufted Titmouse in some thicker trees

Carolina Chickadee

Ovenbird. I had never seen one of these before. They run around on the ground, rather than hopping, looking for bugs.

Ovenbird after it flew up onto a skinny tree

Ovenbird. This is a good look at the orange stripe surrounded by black stripes on the top of its head.

The next time we go here we’ll arrive earlier so we can try to find the owls. Even without those, there were a lot of cool birds being very active which is a lot of fun to watch. Sometimes you just have to slow down, be very quiet and nature will come to you.
