Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive

The weatherman certainly got today wrong. It was supposed to be “mostly sunny” but was all clouds and wind. As it turns out though, it made for nice even light and nice flight conditions for the birds. In particular today was a Kingfisher that put on an exhibition as to how it hunts. Let’s see how that went…

Every day you see an Eagle is a good day, even if its just sitting on the nest

Northern Harrier flying low over the grass a little ways out

Red Shouldered Hawk flying right at me from the top of a tree

Great Blue Heron flying off with a Banded Water Snake that it caught

Great White Egret with a House Wren that it caught. I’ve never seen one catch another bird before.

Success! Lunch is served!

Cloudy days can make for a “soft box” kind of lighting that makes for some great looking photos and today’s weather was no exception. It was also a great day for Kingfishers showing off their hunting skills. As always, it great to be out in nature!
